Aléofane
St. Joseph Syrah
Pretty yummy St Joseph. 2012. A good, pleasant wine, with all typicity of the appellation. The younger sister of Yann Chave; apparently he inherited his parents' domaine and she struck out on her own. I'll be interested to try her Crozes-Hermitage. This bottle was $32 at Winehound in SB.

Jul 26th, 2015Very composed and subtle Syrah from Northern Rhone with some age on it. Burnt red on the eye. Lots of black cherry on the nose, some blood and only a hint of white pepper. The mouthfeel is elegant; full bodied, medium alcohol with powerful black fruit but equally powerful with earth, iron, soft tannings, and a decadent finish. Amazing find. Vigneron: Natasha Chave. If you don’t know who she is, you probably should.

Apr 11th, 2021Treated myself to this tonight. Little bit of a let down to be honest. Still pretty tight, mean acid line. Nose is quite reductive, it says only old french oak used which would generally impart minimal flavour, but the surface of the aromatics are somewhere between pencil shavings and the under side of a cork. Fruit aromas creep in later in the piece and there's a fair scent of plasticine which is hard to get past. Fruit aromas of blackberries, raspberry and chambord liquer. There's a mineral note about it reminiscent of moss over rocks and forest floor. Flavor intensity medium at best, full of underripe raspberries and blackberries.
