Mathilde Chapoutier 2017 Grand Ferrage Rosé de Côtes de Provence AOC
Sometimes I get sent wine samples that are really not good. Like, surprisingly bad. This one was the opposite—delicious and enjoyable and I’d recommend it all day long. It’s not a rosé that has jumped on the “Hey, rosé is a huge moneymaker, so let’s start making pink wine!” bandwagon. This wine is sincere.
Grapes: Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Rolle.
Color: pale salmon. Stereotypically Provençal. Fair amount of residual CO2 that settled down after a few minutes.
Nice nose of strawberries, peaches, orange blossoms, and plumcots; wet stone, mineral.
Palate: Nice roundness and weight with a dry, crisp finish. Same flavors as aromas on nose. Very well made and balanced rosé. Lovely on its own or with food.
