The grape debate!

Well not really because I think we probably all think the bottle is going to be better than the can when it comes to wine right?

So last night I asked Mr Spittoon to pour me tasters of the same wine yet one came from a bottle and one from a can. I analysed the colour, aromas and palate and came to a conclusion which taster was the bottle and which was the can.

I found my first sample to be more pungent and raw while the second sample seemed more refined, elegant and fresh. While you could say they were the same wine, if I was unaware of what I was drinking, I’d probably say they were different wines!

So did I guess the vessels correct? I did and it’s safe to say I enjoyed one a whole lot more than the other 🙌

The first more pungent sample was from the can and the second more refined taster was from the bottle. It was fascinating and I’ll definitely think twice before buying canned wine now😱 Saying that, we do have some sparkling rosé cans in the fridge 😂

Here’s my notes for the bottle version: It’s a pale coral shade in the glass. Red fruits (think cherry, raspberry and pomegranate) with a whiff of watermelon and lemon 🍋 and lime rind come through on the nose. While in the mouth it’s light and refreshing with juicy raspberry, strawberry 🍓 and citrus flavours.

Pale yet vibrant 9ct gold colour on the eye. The nose is bit of a melon medley with honeydew, rock and watermelon coming through with a sprinkling of white pepper. Refreshing, bright and crisp on the palate with delicate oak complimenting the melon, pineapple and honey drizzled grapefruit flavours well.

A name and label like this definitely catches your eye! It's a bricky garnet colour on the eye. On the nose I was picking up salty sea air, pencil sharpenings and dark black fruit. It definitely has a very pungent nose. The palate is full bodied, rich and juicy - it's pretty much a meal in a glass! Definitely a wine to start up some interesting conversations!

Super opaque red colour on the eye. Mr. Spittoon's first impression of the nose was that it smelt of marmite! For me it was a pretty full on nose - after I got past the thought of marmite I picked up blueberry aromas and those chocolate licorice bullet lollies. On the palate it's definitely a drink now Cab and it made me think of coffee and chocolate cake. Medium bodied and full of flavour.

Firstly this was Mr.Spittoon's fave wine from the Vinomofo collaboration pack, he couldn't get enough of it and when I asked him to contribute to the tasting note he just said 'bloody yum'. Here's what I got: It's a deep black red plum colour on the eye with black cherry and blackberry notes on the nose, a touch of red licorice and a certain freshness to it. The palate is juicy and silky with a medium body and an evocative blackcurrant after taste.

A light garnet shade on the eye. With a nose full of black cherry, liquorice and old books. The palate made me think of black jelly beans with its definite twang and I also picked up candied cherries with an earthy undertone and a sprinkling of baking spice. A great accompaniment to hot cross buns in my opinion 🐤
