This week's must-try wines are from Rebecca Gibb MW’s article, Sancerre: Finding Its Place . Enjoy an excerpt from this article and reviews below! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Forget the grape behind Sancerre, local producers are increasingly keen to push their individual vineyards. With records showing the Sancerrois were using the term “climat” before the Burgundians and with hundreds of individual sites today, it’s important to acknowledge their history, but I wonder if the world demands such detail from Sancerre, or if its winemakers are trying to push wine uphill.” --Rebecca Gibb MW, Sancerre: Finding Its Place, August 2022 1. 2019 Alphonse Mellot Sancerre Cuvee Edmond 2. 2021 Alphonse Mellot Sancerre La Moussiere 3. 2020 Claude Riffault Sancerre Les Chasseignes 4. 2019 Domaine Didier Dagueneau Pouilly Fumé Silex 5. 2020 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Les Romains 6. 2020 Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Chambrates 7. 2018 Henri Bourgeois Sancerre Jadis 8. 2020 S & J.P. La Belle Endormie Pouilly-Fume Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Delectable Wine
9.4

The purity and clarity of the 2020 Pouilly Fumé Belle Endormie is astonishing, especially as this is the first vintage. It is seductive, charming and yet has a delightful tension probably from the chalky soils and the fine line of acidity, which acts as an electric current running through the wine. The delicate, pretty, florals and peach flavors are highly attractive. If you wish to commit yourself early to the wine, a decanter would be advised. Or wait a year or two to approach it. Les Chasseignes Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Delectable Wine
9.1

The 2020 Sancerre Les Chasseignes is a ripe and round expression with sweet pineapple fruit flavors. The limestone proportion of the clay-limestone vineyard brings tension and texture that lightly holds the mouth, providing a satisfying finish. It's a gently refreshing acidity, leaving a gently fresh rather than zesty conclusion. For drinking now to the medium term. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2022)

Jadis Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2018 Sancerre Jadis has a sense of liveliness through its plump core. When I say plump, it still remains mid-weight at most in body and bounces gently along the palate. It's silky and supple offering fine chalky texture. It was first produced in 1998 to reflect the style of the wine that their grandparents produced, so oak barrels and concrete tanks were used rather than the more modern stainless steel tanks. Silex Pouilly-Fumé Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Delectable Wine
9.3

The 2019 Pouilly Fumé Silex shows an initial tenderness, sitting quietly and not shouting that it's made it into your glass. This is a wine that has its act together, feeling integrated and balanced with plentiful concentration and a savory long finish. A delicate dill note, which is a characteristic of oaked Sauvignon peeks out amid the hush. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2022)

Edmond Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Cuvée Edmond is an outstanding Sancerre, but it has a price tag to match. It is already drinking beautifully with its ripe apple, white stone fruit and subtle savory characters enveloped within its succulent, round and concentrated core. The conclusion is a delight with a chalky coating covering the entire mouth and a fine line of tension weaving the wine together. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2022)

Chambrates Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2020

Delectable Wine
9.2

This 2020 Sancerre Chambrates is a ripe and succulent style with floral notes and pure apple and pear fruit flavors. Alcohol warmth (14.5%) detracts from the overall impression and clips the finish; although, the serving temperature was a little higher than ideal when tasted in the Vacheron's cellar. Les Romains Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Delectable Wine
9.1

Les Romains is a vineyard with its feet in flint to the east of the fault line in Sancerre. The 2020 Sancerre Les Romains begins with a fruity and open welcome, blossoming and silken in the mouth before tying the wine up; the flint influence acts like the belt on a pair of trousers tightening up the middle and leaving a sensation of sinew and length with a fine nettley fragrance. La Moussière Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2021 Sancerre La Moussiere was tasted as a finished wine still in tank and offers attractive purity and balance. There's tenderness through the mid palate, concentration and ripe fruit, which is no mean feat in the cool 2021 season. (Rebecca Gibb MW, Vinous, August 2022)
