Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

My father-in-law bought a case of this on release and we have had one each year since. In the past this has always been very tight and structured. This year the tannins have nearly fully resolved and the wine is very fruit forward. I'm not sure that it's for the better, but this is still very enjoyable with a steak. I think in three or four years this may be in its sweet spot.

At over 20 years old, the 2004 Opus One is showing beautifully, striking a balance between maturity and vibrancy. On the nose, it opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries, layered with subtle notes of violet, tobacco, and espresso.
On the palate, the wine is smooth and full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins and a silky texture that coats the mouth without being heavy. The core is rich with dark fruit—black plum, currant, and a touch of blueberry—balanced by earthy undertones and a whisper of leather. Definitely one of my favorites.

We let it sit in the decanter for an hour before dinner. It was great.

Needed time. Soft cork. Beautiful after

Cellared for 15 years and decanted for one hour plus. Bit of cork problem but simply strained during decant and all was good. Excellent and just as I remembered it.

Had the 2004. Only let it sit for 30 min but really enjoyed it.

2004 in June 2018 - spectacular! Could not taste the Cab Franc in the blend. Dined at Ruth’s Chris for lb’s birthday.
