Château Angélus
St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend
Part of an Angelus dinner. Had hoped for a bit more out of this vintage, at least for the age. A bit lighter bodied / thinner than I would have expected and certainly compared to the 2015, 2014 and the Carillon 2016. Worked nicely, though, with a Camembert pastry as the combo cheese / dessert course.

Mar 24th, 2023A difficult vintage...hot July, cool August, lots of rain during Sep harvest...but there are some stars who did careful grape selection.
2 hour decant (lots of chunky sediment). A dazzling inky garnet color. On the nose: graphite, cedar, chocolate, plum, and spice all jump from the glass. Taste: full of red cherry, cedar, orange peel, earth, coffee with good acidity and some slightly bitter/dry tannins still working themselves out ( give it a few more years). A creamy and elegant wine...great success for the vintage!

Decanted 1 hour ( lots of sediment). It's a right bank Friday!! A bewitching dark purple garnet color. On the nose: blue fruit, floral, cedar, spice, earth. Taste: blueberry, smoke, earth, cherry, coffee...slightly grippy tannins with medium acidity and medium finish. Give it a few more years and drink over the next 10 years. One of the better 06 wines, a vintage I have surprisingly not been fond of.

Jun 1st, 2019Also in magnum format. First Angelus as well. Absolutely floored by the mix of strength and elegance this wine encapsulates. If this is what they produce in a questionable vintage, I really have to try a good vintage! Smooth tannins mixed with cassis and a hint of cigar.

Mar 22nd, 2019Début de patine bien agréable mais on est quand même dans un style différent des vins d'avant 2002.

Sep 18th, 2015This wine is nearly perfect! Big, bold, dark fruit/Santa Rosa plum, meaty nose. Integrated tannins. Enjoy!!
