Way too early but found this on the cheap at Costco. Wanted to beta test. Recommendation: stock up. Blackberry fruit is quickly overtaken by bacon fat, iron, tobacco, leather, and floral flavors. The tannins remain strong, if not astringent, providing ample backbone suggesting this can easily go another 15 years. Buyer beware: this needs to be your thing.

Deep ruby hue with strong tearing. Tart red and black fruit, such as blackberry, fig, and plum, espresso, peat, pipe tobacco, dark baking spice, wet stone conjuring an image of the galets blanketing the earth at the base of the vines. Chewy tannins and tart black fruit on the palate. Noticeable heat. Grenache-based blend. Strong, bold red from Southern Rhône. ABV 14.5%. Vintage 2012.

Fruity aroma and taste from rich Grenache. A bit spicy, but softer than Gigondas. Smooth tanning. Ripen red fruits flavor can be felt after more than 1 hour. 2 hours or decanting are necessary. @1750, Datong - X, 180326-180327
