Time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday.

Ruby in color with wide reddish/ brick rim.

Pretty nose with blueberries, plums, red currants, spices, wet leaves, oak, tobacco leaf, pencil lead, earth, black tea, thyme, light vinaigrette and black pepper. Very aromatic.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity.

Dry on the palate with plums, blueberries, cranberries, currants, oak, tobacco, earth, bitter herbs, spices, wet leaves, coffee, cola, pencil lead, black tea and black pepper.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy pomegranates.

This young Merlot based Bordeaux is starting to show its potential. From a great vintage, and still has a lot of room to grow. A good quality wine.

The nose is already beautiful and I loved smelling on it for a while.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years. Still young and tight.

Still a bit unbalanced and better with food right now. I paired it with Brie cheese, olives and crackers.

A blend of 65% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot. Kosher.

14% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$50.

Excellent bargain, for a 2010 Bordeaux, probably nearing peak. Beautiful truffles on the nose. Smooth tannins, typical currant fruit, a bit short.

Here's a nice Merlot for #MerlotThursday.

Deep ruby in color with a short reddish rim.

Nose of black plums, cooked cherries, oak, spices, light vanilla, tobacco leaf, light vegetables, pencil lead, earth, herbs and espresso.

Full bodied with medium acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cherries, oak, light vanilla, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth and black tea.

Long finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty Merlot blend from Bordeaux. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel.

Needs an hour to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle too. Tannins show up after an hour of airtime.

This 7 year old is drinking very nicely now, and will continue to age nicely in the next 5 to 7 years.

I had this vintage a couple of years ago and it is drinking much better now.

Spicy and entertaining, and good by itself or with food. I paired it with cheeses, crackers and a beautiful view of the lake.

A blend of 65% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Kosher and Mevushal.

14% alcohol by volume.

Very good Bordeaux, especially for a Kosher wine. This wine tastes just like a non-Kosher Bordeaux. It’s not a spectacular Bordeaux example, but it’s reasonably priced and enjoyable. A great choice for the Seder.

Excellent Bordeaux despite being Kosher. Great flavors of dried fruit, earth , and leather. One of the best Kosher wines I have had.

2014. Vintage Very rustic. Aromatics are in line with the “Bordeaux nose”. Light to medium bodied, with a light finish. I love Bordeaux, but this is too weak for a $24 wine. Might be well past it’s peak.
