Italy. White. Sardegna.
Yet another gem from Sardegna. Not as fruity, more floral/honey but still delicious with seafood. A smooth, fuller bodied wine. 13.5% alc by vol, nuragus grapes. This is more Chardonnay-like in feel than the vermentino I had from Sardegna. Both are recommended. — 5 years ago
Italy. White. Sicilian.
100% Malvasia grapes. This was a really interesting one; got hints of sea salt more than fruit (maybe some lemon and nectarine), straw color, thick compared to most Italian white blend/moscato/Pinot Grigio...more like a chardonnay consistency but no buttery taste - tasted much lighter. Think of cooking with butter vs olive oil - this is more like olive oil. Went wonderfully with seafood (spaghetti alle vongole)...used it to cook the dish too. Don’t really taste the alcohol (13.5% alc. by vol.). I really liked it and it was unlike other whites I’ve tried. More expensive than other whites I’ve tried but I definitely would get it again as I felt it had more depth. Not a sparkling or wine with “zing”. — 5 years ago
Complex and multilayered Savagning in a clean (e.g. no flor) style. Ouillé! Fried sunflower seeds, lemon peel, sesame, honey, used leaves of aged Bái Mǔ Dān. And what an incredible acidity despite its age. Almost perfect balance, long aftertaste, vigorous and flavourful. Great wine, yet hard to appreciate on a blind tasting. Something I would love to buy and taste again in five or ten years.
Tasted as part of Mixed Bag Vol. 1.

Italy. Red. Sardegna. Another great red from Sardegna. I’ve decided I like cannonau. This one is more fruity than the Sella & Mosca with black cherry and plum notes. I actually might prefer it but both are great, used this in cooking and enjoying with a hearty tomato-based pasta. My favorite wines thus far have been from the Italian island regions: Sardinia and Sicily. $14. 13% alc by vol. — 5 years ago
Consumed 01/2020. Received in a shipment but not sure when. I am afraid I have cellared it for too long. The cork broke off and I made a mess getting the cork out so that I could strain it into a decanter. The wine stains are evident on the label.. They use for varietals to make this. At the time that it was released it was phenomenal. But now that I have kept it too long, I would say not as good. I need to drink the rest of it pretty quickly. 14.1% alc/vol. — 5 years ago
France. Red. Languedoc-Roussillon.
Blackberry, plum, spicy black pepper and perhaps cinnamon. Deep purple color. These are the dark deep wines I like. Not as fruity as my favorite Italian reds but still good with my pizza. 14% alc by vol. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre blend. $13. — 5 years ago
France. Red. Languedoc-Roussillon.
Love Domain Lafage, consistently making great and affordable wines. Really dark color, thick, Blackberry notes, this is an example of the dark fruity wines I like best. Had with Greek salad. 14.5% alc by vol. carignan grapes. — 5 years ago
France. Red. Languedoc-Roussillon.
I like Southern Italian reds which tend to be fruity and bold. This French one was just as fruity and a little less bold but really great. Blueberry, dried cherry notes. Has beautiful red color. I really liked the flavor. I think it would be good for company. Less than $15. Went well with my mushroom risotto. 14.5% alc. by vol. Syrah and Grenache. — 5 years ago
