Vignerons Du Madiran

Château Bouscassé

Madiran Tannat Blend 2018

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour with some friends while we played pool. The 2018 pours a dark garnet with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of dark fruit: black plum, cassis, tobacco, cocoa, ferrous minerals, gentle, dried cool spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. Masculine and pretty impressive value. I would imagine this would be a solid paring with cassoulet. Drink now and through 2028. — 12 days ago

— 4 months ago

Château d'Aydie (Famille Laplace)

Odé d'Aydie Madiran Tannat 2017

Such a good, well-behaved Tannat. Pure dark berry fruit, gravel, spice. Surprisingly soft and round in the mouth. Tannins so soft. Great value. — 8 months ago

Domaine Labranche-Laffont

Vieilles Vignes Madiran Tannat 2018

From 50+ year old (and even some 150+ year old old pre-phylloxera) vines. A really intriguing wine that needs food. Intense tannins + high acid that find their balance. Aromatic w/ lacquer (helloooo VA, but just enough to add a needed little lift), pepper steak, black plum, violet, cinnamon, paraffin, smoke. All of that plus a lingering exotic spice on the palate. Ideally paired with something rustic and fatty (we settled for lentils). Good winter warmer. — 4 months ago

Château Peyros

Madiran Tannat-Cabernet 2019

Spicy, round tannins, could use more acidity. Smoke, dark fruit, jammy, very nice — 7 months ago
