Clear deep orange to bright red color with tear drop. Fascinating color.
First scents: pomegranate, cherry, cherry comport, dried dates, walnuts, raisins, dried pineapple.
Second notes: plum, red shiso (Japanese herbs ),
Third aroma: black olive, oil, sweet red fruits, ink, rubber, blood.
Crispy acid and deep powerful sweetly sour attack with nuance of fruits, barrel, olive oil, vanilla, woody or sherry like brewed hint. Good bitterness. Complexity. Interesting taste. — 10 years ago

Pircoca is the dialectal word for peach, actually the local variety i should say
It goes without saying the wine smells and tastes of peach, it's almondy, it has a citrussy apple too
But peculiar is its mineral side, quite metallic and salty. Not completely dry, but quite in balance with the mineral, you sort of can't feel the sweetness
It plays a song with not to many loud notes, but in the end it is interesting and queffable

Took this one to a bottle share and it was one of the top wines there. Drinking amazing now and glad I held onto it. Tons of life in it and it could've laid down for another several years just fine. This is made by a close friend of mine, Marco Cosenza. He's been making wine for the past five years, and I was fortunate to acquirer a case of this marvelous wine. Produced and bottled by City Vinters San Francisco Winery. This Cabernet underwent a cold soak for seven days before going to press. It spent 18 months in new Hungarian oak. Dark fruit and with fine tannins. Nice long finish. Im sure this vintage will continue to evolve for another five years. — 11 years ago

We might look at a wine that nearly doesn't exist
I reckon i visited the only vineyard of Montonico Pinto. Francesco Rizzo makes about 700 bottles of still white and 500 of Metodo Classico Pas Dose sparkling.
Firstly, i fell in love with the site, 600 above see with the Pollino mountain as a background, sitting on a lovely saddle, not even an hectare. It's absolutely stunning, and i have seen a few vineyards.
Francesco planted vines in 2006 during a project to protect the biodiversity of the area, and nowadays, he holds an enormous genetic patrimony.
With the montonico pinto he thought he had some mantonico with a problem; the berries all had this dot and he treated the vines for 2 years thinking they were damaged or having trouble until one of the elders of the village came by and mentioned to him that the berries had nothing wrong and that the 'puntinata'(old local name) would grow like that just because that's how it is. Thet was a new start, and then 'puntinata' became 'pinto'.
The wine is peculiar; it has a specific balsamic finish, which can remember sage or mint nearly.
We meet a good acidity, and we can only hope Francesco will do better and better with it.
The sparkling was out of stock, but i was gifted a couple of bottles for the Masterclass at the Pollino Wine Fest. Everyone went crazy, that would have been a 9.4. It reminded me of a good Pinot Meunier from the Val de Marne.
To be honest, there is another producer(L'Acino) who had been donated some graftings in the past and might have put together another vineyard, but i need to find out. It's all quite exciting, though!! — 2 days ago
