Tahbilk

Marsanne 2019

Don’t know how this one escaped my attention for so long, but I get why it’s so well loved. Ridiculous QPR. At the risk of both revealing my ignorance and offending everyone, I reckon this is the drink Stanley Dry White cask (a seminal drop in my existence, and fellow Australian cheapo icon) aspires to be. Whistle-clean citrusy drinker with intensity right round the edges. Cellaring a few of these from now on. — 6 years ago

@October Cleveland Tahbilk make 3 Marsanne cuvees. There is this one; the Winemakers Selection and 1927 vines in increasing quality and price. I bought 4 of each from the winery. They live for ages. You might find them at Dans as well.

Winemakers' Selection Marsanne 2014

Delectable - this is the Winemaker’s Selection Marsanne from Chateau Tahbilk - not offered in your Database, which is odd considering that Tahbilk have the largest acreage of Marsanne in the world including vines planted in 1927. This wine had the characteristic nose of mouldy oranges together with citrus peel. Not dissimilar to a mature Semillon but more unctuous on the palate. Good examples are as long living as good Hunter Valley Semillon. Chateau Tahbilk is located in central Victoria in the Goulburn Valley. Will go on for a few years yet. — 3 years ago

Point Ormond

Upper Goulburn Marsanne Roussanne 2014

Exceptional quality with lovely citrus, peach and apple aromas, plenty of minerality and a silky, rich texture. Lovely acidity - it's a great version of the classic Rhône white blend and the bit of extra bottle age helps. Excellent with food — 8 years ago

Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre 2014

Absolutely so smooth from the first sip. Left bottle open for a couple days after first glass and was divine. No harshness even after first open, slightly sweet with a bit of dryness. Overall fantastic taste. — 10 years ago

1860 Shiraz 2012

Probably the WOTN for me as I didn’t subscribe to the Exceptional category this time. This is in the Outstanding category. From ancient pre phylloxera Shiraz vines dating back to 1860. Medium bodied with incredible intensity and length. Marvellous. — 8 years ago

I'm loving Victorian shiraz these days! Medium bodied, earthy and really well balanced! Mouthfeel is terrific, so much more interesting than your typical Barossa/McLaren vale shiraz.
But also not too challenging.
Great value.
