Spirits Of Seven Rivers

Rivers-Marie

B. Thieriot Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

Over a 3.5 hour period on May 29, my wife and I (along with three kids in tow) had the pleasure of sitting down with Will Segui of Rivers-Marie and winemaker of his personal label William & Mary at the Mending Wall facilities in St. Helena to taste through seven wines from bottle. Will also graciously provided tastings of his 2016 and 2017 William & Mary varietals from barrel.

Beautiful golden color in the glass; nose of honey, golden apples, and white flowers; bright and vibrant palate with lemon, apple, honey and subtle mint; oily texture, viscous; great acid kick on the back end; nowhere near the exotic, tropical fruit nature of the 2013, but still fruit-forward and characteristics of a quality Chardonnay

Deep, dark purple in color; nose is definitely Pinot, but one of darker and richer fruit; palate exhibits a dark fruit, with mostly blue but even some black fruits (maybe that's actually more cola); rich and intense, but not overly sweet or candied like some Cali Pinots (that I don't much care for); floral undertones; good representation of the vineyard; long finish; structured for aging; delicious

Trinity Table Wine Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

A blend of grapes, including Cabernet and Shiraz. Mellow, a tad sweet, and delicious. Great for that everyday glass of red wine that's good for the heart! — 12 years ago

Panek Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Big, rich, and bold, yet so well-balanced for such a young Napa Cab; completely fruit-forward right now; blackberry compote, creme-de-casis; clove, lavender, and a dark-woodsy effect on the nose; palate all the same and wonderful; silky, long finish; while this is so delicious now, it will definitely age well...but then again, why wait; one of my favorites year-over-year

***Super sweet, beautiful color. Local PA wine score! This is a lovely rose` wine which I located at Wegmans (grocery store) in Williamsport, PA in May of 2018. I have never seen this wine at any PA Wine & Spirits locations, so I was glad that I took a chance on this wine when I saw it!

William & Mary Wine Company

Shifflett Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Opened a couple of hours before tasting; nose of dark red fruits, cloves, spice; so elegant on the palate, with sweet raspberries, cherry, and a soft, light woodiness; definitely some older-world, rustic nature to this wine; heavily structured but still so very good and easy to drink right now; corked and kept cool; days 2 and 3, the fruit profile became a bit darker and the tannins intensified, confirming the wine's structure; this is quickly becoming one of my favorite Napa Cabs

Rivers-Marie

Summa Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Over a 3.5 hour period on May 29, my wife and I (along with three kids in tow) had the pleasure of sitting down with Will Segui of Rivers-Marie and winemaker of his personal label William & Mary at the Mending Wall facilities in St. Helena to taste through seven wines from bottle. Drank after the 2016 Occidental Ridge; very different nose and palate; this is much more herbal and not quite as rich and powerful; the dark cherry fruit is more in-line with a nice herbal/stem/pine forest floor note as opposed to being the primary driver; this seems to be more heavily structured than the Occidental; still, a very smooth drinker right now; give it a couple of years

It took time for this to open...like 4-5 days; dark fruit profile which never really pushed itself to the front; the fruit was more in-line with black licorice, pencil shavings and cigar box all along; the longer the wine was open, the sweeter and softer the tannins became; still an enjoyable, bigger, richer wine that seems to want a few more years laying on its side
