Wow... amazing wine... This bottle was firing on all cilinders!
Great complexity, élégance and depth...

Michael David Winery

Incognito Lodi Souzao Blend

Dark ruby in color with a purple rim.

Very strong fruity nose with black currants, blackberries, figs, raisins, vanilla, sweet raspberries, smoke, chocolates, mocha, earth, wood, licorice, vinegrete and black pepper.

Full bodied, jammy and rich, with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with raspberries, cherries, strawberries, ripe cranberries, earth, vanilla, licorice, oak, peppercorn and spices.

Long finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries.

A great blend from the house of Michael David. Soft and well balanced, with nice complexity, and a tangy mouth watering finish. Enjoyable by itself, good right out of the bottle, and a little better after an hour.

This 4 year old is drinking very nicely now and will be good in the next few years. I kept it for a couple of years in my cellar, to see if there are any changes, but I don't see a reason for that. Great vintage as it is.

A good sipping wine that will also work well with grilled meats.

A blend of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Mourvedre and Grenache.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

Sine Qua Non

Li'l E Grenache 2003

A contribution from the raconteur @Shawn R and the label is a photo of him from his youthful confused stage. This was banging. I immediately recalled the SQN Incognito when I sat with this for a while. Very dark in the glass for a Grenache, subtle pepper, crimson cherry, kirsch. So sumptuous and voluptuous....and I loooove voluptuous. — 7 years ago

Sine Qua Non

Dirt Vernacular Grenache Blend 2016

2016 Sine Qua Non "Dirt Vernacular" California Grenache. The blend is 78% Grenache, 11.5% Mourvedre, 7% Touriga Nacional and 3.5% Petite Sirah, dominated by estate fruit, but some 9% came from the Krankl's blocks at Bien Nacido Vineyard that are farmed to their specifications. 16% alcohol. So for me, it all started with “Incognito.” Greatest Grenache I’d ever tasted. Simply stunning and still one of my favorites. How do you top that one? Well then “The Inaugural” showed up. Phenomenal! Then it’s “Ode To E.” Y’all know I absolutely LOVE that wine! Oh but wait, here comes “Trouver L'Arène.” Exquisite! And just in case you missed them all, now there’s tonight’s selection. And I’m pleased to report that the streak continues. As I’ve mentioned previously several times, Grenache is quite possibly the most difficult and finicky grape. But what really sets SQN apart is the final blend. Simply stated, Manfred is a genius when it comes to blending. If you have one, feel free to pull the cork as this wine is absolutely open for business. About a 3 hour decant at cellar temperature, the nose is, as usual with SQN, mind blowing. Cherries, plums, pepper, teriyaki, kirsch and a bouquet of roses. Full-bodied, ultra-rich, multi-layered palate-staining ripe black fruit smorgasbord. Tremendous depth and purity. What a finish! The parade of excellence marches on! — 6 years ago

Wow! Great to hear that it is in the same league as the Inaugural and Ode to E! Have yet to open a Trouver L’ Arene or Dirt Vernacular so thanks for the youngster notes!

Great to hear these can be tried. I wasn’t a fan of Grenache until I read your posts and tried a SQN. Just amazing.
