A $10 Viognier from Spain has no business being this good. Aromas of honeysuckle and wildflowers. Lemongrass and light stone fruit on the palate, and a playful minerality for the finish. Next time I see this in the shop I’m buying a case. — 8 years ago

Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.

Fruity on the nose with black currants, black plums, black cherries, cedar, spices, vanilla, licorice, earth, black pepper, eucalyptus, leather and chocolates.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, vanilla, light earth, wood, spices, peppercorn, chocolates, tobacco, graphite, dark coffee and light vinaigrette.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tart cranberries.

This is a nice surprise. An interesting Petit Verdot from Spain. Definitely feels like a new world wine. Tangy and a little hot.

Good by itself and better with food. Good right out of the bottle, but better as it opens up and brings some tannins and structure.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.

14% alcohol by volume.
