Winery notes, Sun Chase Vineyard is planted on the west-facing hillside where the cool Petaluma Gap collides with Sonoma Mountain, this site overlooks a broad sweep of the county from the San Pablo Bay to north Santa Rosa. Our Chardonnay block with an east-west row aspect sits on a sun-drenched, rocky incline at 1000' where fruit yields are naturally limited with small clusters and aromatic fruit. In our binary world- this is a feminine format. Pinot weight and body with East Coast fruit expression. Nice aromatics couple with punchy acidic flow. The type of plummy acid that make the mouthfeel “float” with a grace more impactful than the actual fruit. Compelling, especially with the right cuisine ;) 1 bottle remains - target 2026? 91 pt because it’s NC and relatively weighted — 3 years ago

Note: this rating is for this vintage when in its prime (secondary development)… as I pull this from the cellar it is clearly in 25% decline from tertiary development.  as I have come to learn, very hot, high sugar vintages do not work long-term for 100% PV bottlings. There simply is not enough tannin and acid to contend with the higher alcohol/sugars for long term aging - so 2010’s are out of runway at about 8ish years. I pushed this one to 11… But that is the purpose of my experimentation in East Coast wine aging. So what did it taste like: Mulberries and leather with sweet prune finish - quite similar to an UNFORTIFIED PORT. served admiral Voy with our fatty brisket as a stand in for California Zinfandel.
