Full disclosure. This is my wine, just got the labeling finished. First release. 2017 was sourced from a Single vineyard in the southwest corner of Horse Heaven Hills. Similar soil profile to The Rocks District.90/10 Syrah/Viognier. The vineyard owner thought we were crazy when we called this pick. 13.5% alcohol. The Syrah and Viognier were picked together. Viognier was all Clone 1, The Syrah is almost all Clone 471 with a bit of Phelps. The Viognier was gorgeous and I had to really resist the urge of fermenting some by itself and throwing it in an old barrel. 4 Native fermentations, 100% destemmed, 25% Whole Cluster, 50% Whole Cluster, 100% Whole Cluster. 8 used 228 liter barrels, 2 new 500 liter puncheons. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. This bottle has been open for 5 days and it keeps getting better. It was pretty tight when it was opened for at least 24 hours. Young well made wines can be open for days. I will probably release this when it doesn’t need a 2 day decant. The goal for this wine is to be different from what’s dominating PNW Syrah currently. This is light, fresh, floral. The Viognier is distinct. Hope people enjoy what we’re trying to do. — 2 years ago
@Ron R thanks for asking. It’s actually spelled out phonetically on back with a French definition. It means, flood, flooded or awash. Ties into a couple of different things but primarily the soil profiles of the sites and the Missoula Floods.
At its honeyed, floral, lemon zest, roasted plum and quince best after three days in the fridge and left to warm almost to room temperature. — 7 years ago
