Investigating classic pairings and realized the only thing I had to serve chèvre on was packets pretzels from the flight I just…flew in from?
Fortunately pretzels were good call. Otherwise?I’m annoyed. I’ve never cared for goat cheese. And I’ve scoffed at how Sancerre scarcely tastes like Sauvignon Blanc anymore.
But the two together are so delightful. It’s coming to terms with a madness in line with last week when I found myself hanging with a gorgeous couple (Los Angeles models yayyy) and I wished I could write them off. Then one picked up his guitar and started playing 90’s/early aughts hits with passion, and his girlfriend confided she wrote Edward Allen Poe inspired poetry and I thought “damn I love them…where did my inner Daria go???”
Both pairings really pleased me.
The humans it’s obvious they are asshole artists like me.
The cheese and wine? I never liked the gamey notes and (to me) overly rich bordering on pasty mouthfeel of chèvre. But somehow the floral, mineral, and white peach vibes from this Sancerre tease out the floral and earthy (without being animal-y) zings from the cheese.
I’m pissed that I found a way I like goat cheese. The more you know? — 4 years ago

Nice and buttery, held up well to chèvre and truffle salad — 10 years ago
Delicious, simple wine, with nice minerality. Loads of sour cherry and tons of acidity, with some nice forest floor rounding it out. Had with some chèvre, which went great. — 10 years ago

Super interesting ages rose paired with rose octopus at chèvre d’or. They made us blind it in these black glasses. Thought it was a heavy white at first. With Manu and Hitomi. Overlooking eze with the best seats in the house bc Manu met the som at a bar in nice last week — 2 years ago
2019. Ordered at Restaurant L'Arpents but not served. Bought a bottle and drank it with chèvre in our room for Apéro. Excellent. — 4 years ago
17.5. Raynolds says ‘rewards cellaring ‘. You bet! 12 years on, it’s fresh, still light yellow. Quite round and full for a Sancerre. Lots of fruit, good acidity. Wouldn’t want to guess how long it will hold, but probably long enough for me to get through the remaining 5 bottles. Perfect with salmon and chèvre. — 6 years ago
2013 vintage served with grilled hangar steak, charred fingerlings with red onion and purple pepper and tomato salad with oregano mint and chèvre. Exquisite nose of leather book cover, light of rome. Good acid yielding to pleasant tannin. You know when you have it and this has it . Lovely and got 2 more in the crawl space with three of the 14s. Light waning, time to relax. Godspeed troops. — 9 years ago
What an incredible treat. Up in the medieval village of Chèvre D'Or overlooking the Mediterranean- it goes perfect with that! Rich and elegant - warm and scintillating- every single sip. — 10 years ago
Wonderful Chenin Blanc. Attractive nose that is full of green apple, orange peel, and wet slate. Bursting with zippy acidity, the palate shows intense grapefruit, sour green apple, nectarine, fresh squeezed lemon and white pepper. Pair this with a herb crusted fresh chèvre and die happy. — 10 years ago

Excellent paired with French cheeses ( Fourme d’Ambert, pavé de brebis, fromages de chèvre de Normandie et d’Anjou). Had the 2017 vintage in July 2023. — 3 years ago
Nice Saint-Emilion to celebrate my place in Montesson. Paired it with Polenta Valsugana, with Gorgonzola, Mascarpone and Chèvre — 3 years ago
Hazy straw color. Citrus, faint nutmeg on nose. Full bodied, resinous on palate with floral notes, lime zest, and honeydew. Mouth watering acidity, long finish. Paired with chèvre drizzled with orange blossom honey. — 6 years ago
First wine Gewurztraminer - sweet and fruity - with the first round of cheeses Gruyere, Chèvre et Camembert - great class! — 9 years ago
Incredible value at around $15. Juicy ripe strawberries and spicy raspberry with vibrant acidity. I'm partial to the Loire, but this is truly a perfectly versatile wine you could sip poolside or serve with a wide range of cuisine. Try it with some pulled pork on a steamy summer day or a light summer salad with fresh chèvre. — 10 years ago
Holy cow, loved this wine - even more so having gotten it from Last Bottle. Beautiful roundness with a typical, but well balanced oaky vanilla California Pinot aspect. More blueberry and cinnamon than cola, and really fat, but so enjoyable. Paired with lamb burgers with Humboldt Fog Chèvre and sage-honey butter. — 10 years ago

Château Suduiraut, 2023, Sauternes BDX, France 🇫🇷
Overview
Premier Cru Classé Sauternes delivering pure botrytis luxury blend of 80% Semillon, 15% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Sauvignon Gris with remarkable tension and precision. Lush honeyed richness balanced by vibrant acidity and a beautifully layered texture that feels both decadent and weightless. Sensual, polished, and deeply expressive, this is a dessert wine that seduces rather than overwhelms.
Aromas & Flavors
Orange blossom, acacia honey, apricot confit, ripe peach, saffron, candied citrus peel, subtle vanilla bean, almond paste, and a whisper of ginger spice. Floral lift intertwines with botrytis-driven sweetness and fresh citrus brightness.
Mouthfeel
Silky, viscous, and coating without heaviness. Glycerol richness glides across the palate while acidity keeps the wine lifted, focused, and endlessly drinkable. Long, luxurious, and caressing finish.
Food Pairings
Foie gras torchon, blue cheese (Roquefort or Stilton), apricot tart, almond pastries, honey-drizzled chèvre, citrus-based desserts, or simply enjoyed solo as a contemplative finale.
Verdict
Sublime, sexy, and impeccably balanced. A masterclass in tension between sweetness and freshness, delivering pleasure, elegance, and emotional impact in equal measure. A benchmark nightcap wine.

🍯 Personal Pick
This wine feels like a French kiss, seductive tension, velvet weight, and honeyed decadence wrapped in electric freshness. The viscosity caresses the palate while the acidity keeps everything irresistibly alive. — 5 months ago
