2015 Piaggia “Il Sasso” Carmignano. Made with Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot. It’s dark ruby red in color, rich & plump in flavor. Aromas of lavender, spice, & tobacco please your senses. Firm tannins here hence plenty of life ahead. A very dark fruit-driven wine. Cheers🍷 — 7 days ago
Terrific, though very young, wine. Nose takes some airing to emerge. Then, rich dark cherry fruit, complemented with lots of warm sandstoney scents, cracked rocks, and exotic spice notes. In the mouth it’s tightly wound, but shows really good concentration and depth, with excellent acidity and (of course) lots of youthful, but fine-grained, tannin. Really good now, but will improve for at least 5 or more years. Rating is 9.3+. Really nice with Marchegiani pasticciata, an eye of the round that’s larded and then braised with vegetables, red wine, and tomatoes, then sliced and braised some more! — 5 months ago

It was perfect with filet mignon & backed potato. Dark ruby red, low tannin, very smooth. — a year ago

50 year old vines located 37 km under the Majella and Gran Sasso Mountains in Abuzzo.
On the nose, orange skins, grapefruit and white flower blossoms.
Zippy acidity with minerality, citrus zest, ginger, nettles and almond skins.
We cooked local fried oysters with panko (kaki furai) and this wine was fantastic.
It would also pair with grilled or sashimi scallops — 4 months ago
