September 2022: decent young Barolo, approachable after 30 min decant — a year ago

Opened and decanted 1.5 hours before dinner. Probably not long enough.

Nose is pure milk chocolate and then first sip is smooth but gripping tannins that made my mouth so dry I was stunned.

This benefited from the rich meatballs in sauce meal and then really shined with the food. Just delicious.

Perfumed nose of rose petals and fresh cranberries. A bit rounder than most Dolcetto wines with red fruit offset by typical dusty notes. Slightly tannic and herbaceous on the finish (but in a good way). About as good as Dolcetto gets. — 4 months ago

Flavors that imply juiciness, but also very dry... Tannins are very soft... Medium finish... Blind, you may have trouble determining if this is young or older... Intriguing... Structured floral black cherry. Very long finish. Deep color for a 20 year old bottle. Simply beautiful. I’d say it’s drinking amazing right now and can go another 10-15 without a flinch. — 18 days ago

The profound 1996 Barolo Capalot Riserva boasts a dense, ruby/purple color, and a pure nose of black cherries, raspberries, and blackberries. Layered and multidimensional, with a sweet mid-palate and a blockbuster finish, this is an immense, full throttle Barolo that should age effortlessly for 15-25 years. Impressive!
