Little too much of licorice? Not sure previous Nero d'Davola has this much of it. Dry and closer to medium body. Paired with beef tataki with chimichurri sauce-not the best match. — 10 years ago
Last week's theme was Kirkland brand, meaning that choosing a pair from Costco's own brand. In Korea, Costco is one of the better retailer for entry to medium price wine, as their price tag is moderate with all that crazy tax for booze. To be honest, I am never a big Chardonnay drinker as I prefer either ones with less body and more acidity or ones with more body than less acidity than chard. In addition to that, here in Korea most of white wine is Chardonnay-France, US, Chile, everywhere. No diversity. I hate it. Having said that, this one was a pleasant drink: neither oaky nor buttery, it paired well with gnocchi with bacon and rosemary sauce(with shallot, of course). 23,000KRW=$20 — 10 years ago
Medium body and acidity, fruity. OK Pinot Gris-had better one than this. — 10 years ago
I wanted to celebrate Argentina's advancing to the World Cup final with Argentinian white and red. While doing that, I wanted to see how relatively higher priced Malbec fares compared with ones from other part of the world. To make a long story short, I wasn't too impressed. I suspect there might be some issues with storing, but if I spend same amount of money(50,000KRW=$37), I would look someplace else-more than anything, it lacks depth and sophistication. — 10 years ago
-Price: 20,000KRW
-Purchase: shinsegae department store, kangnam, Seoul
-Character: medium to full body, slightly loud; lime with mineral/chalk
-Food pairing: bruschetta with caramelized onion, double cream Normandy Brie and bleu d'auverge(on potato sourdough rustic bread)
-Overall: for everyday wine, wouldn't be a bad choice

OK, another Kirkland signature. Red blend from Pacific Northwest- mostly cab, with some Shiraz and Malbec I remember. For 30,000KRW($27? I know it's crazy; it should be under $15 really. What a joke.), it has real nice balance and smoothness to it. I know I should not use 'pleasantly surprised' too much in wine, but it was. Paired with braised pork belly with caramel miso glaze. Michael Rhulman's recipe from 'Twenty'-not an exciting flavor combination. Maybe works for Americans those who believe they understand how to 'east meets west.' — 10 years ago
