This was another solid Pinot from the Oregon tasting at K&L Wines in Hollywood. This was a lovely if overpriced Pinot. It gets four stars because I enjoyed it but would never pay for it. The fruit was very concentrated, extremely dark in comparison to its ghostly, waifish peers. It was like blackcurrant diluting juice, with a big long finish which a really dug. I'm such a huge Riesling fan that I'm starting to get a bit preachy about it. I think that there is a whole culture of people coming through that are open to off-dry wine, and wines like this will help that happen. I've had better, but its still a great time. It's well assembled, viscous and somewhat creamy as well. Rislings have a tendency to trick you with the sugar (because we do love a bit of sugar) and this one caught me out. I really enjoyed it, but its a bit pricey. - Ross Gardiner — 10 years ago

This was another well-oaked wine that screamed beans on toast to me. This was quite a densely compact wine, wuth lots of under ripe pineapple, dried peel, but it really lacked a finish. It just kind of drops the mic and walks off stage. I appreciate a conclusion, and this wine doesn't really have one. This was probably the stand out red in the bunch, and really made appreciate the more acidic, lean Pinot Noirs that are coming out of Oregon. The others had a bit too much bite, but this one was extremely well put together. Fabulously rich, smooth, with excellent fruit showing, cherry and mint (again...) and a faint oak. This wine took the tasting up a f**king notch. Great wine, but about $30 north of my price range - Ross Gardiner — 10 years ago

Straight off the bat I was excited by the nose. It had a gorgeous must to it. There wasn't just fruit lurking in there my son! But then in we go and the acidity is just ferocious, burning holes in you fillings and strippinh the enamel off your teeth. The tannin are bracing, and the finish just doesn't really work for me. The color is very pretty though. It's an explosive, hairdresser's car purple... Nah. Skip this wine. - Ross Gardiner — 10 years ago

This was a lovely wee Pinot from an Oregon tasting I attended today at K&L Wines in Hollywood. Lovely delicate little thing that was perfectly in balance and was bringing enough sweetness to offset some of that mighty northern tartness! I got strawberries, cherries, even a little spearmint, and a lovely long finish that was like falling asleep in a hammock. - Ross Gardiner — 10 years ago

This was a big favorite of the K&L staff, and it was certainly one of the better wines on the catwalk today. This is essentially a German-style Pinot Noir from Oregon. Its very thin, worryingly thin. I got a huge amount of spearmint on it (been catching that a lot today. Maybe they used minty soap to clean their glasses...) as well as your usual suspects berries and cherries. It was a little too acidic for me but I won't be deterred by high altitude. - Ross Gardiner — 10 years ago

Okay, its good, but it isn't great. And if you're going to charge $45 for a bottle its got have its shit together. This is a very thin, whispery wine with a complex nose of strawberries and cherries smashed into a forest floor. The acidity is poised, the tannin are gentle, and the wine is certainly very pleasant and good time. But, at $45 its way overpriced. Should be about $30 at most, and that'll cost you some stars from Rossy Boy. - Ross Gardiner — 10 years ago
