1934 Château Margaux

Top shoulder fill. Semi-opaque at the core, almost like an old burgundy with its brownish hews. Beautiful and graceful bouquet of roses, raspberries that have been baked, very elegant and healthy nose. At first very dry, with the fruit barely hanging on for dear life, but after 15 minutes in the decanted it comes alive with sweet fruit, high acidity and just a kiss of tannin. This is very complex and sublime for about a period of 20-40 minutes, what else could you ask for from a 80 year old bottle of wine.

Dark, burnt orange in color. The nose resounds with raisins and dark plum sauce, caramelized brown sugar, dried roses, old church wood, cigar box. The palate is where this wine impresses most. Medium-bodied, dry on entry, nicely balanced on the mid-palate and very graceful and almost sweet on the back end with impressive tannic strength. Loads of sweet fruit with a port like character that lingers on a very lengthy finish. An impressive bottle of wine, I'm shocked at how much fresh, sweet fruit this still holds.

At its core it remains ruby red, thinning out ever so slightly at the rim. Bold aromas of pen ink, ripe blackberry, blueberry and cassis leaf that is slightly hinting at cigar box, it has a certain complexity that has you searching for more and is more perfumed than any other Saint-Estephe that I have put to my nose. The palate shows gobs of fresh, ripe, sweet berry fruit, with acidity and tannin in perfect balance, it has a mouthfeel that i'v only met with once before in the 82 vintage, high in glycerol almost like a Cabernet form California at less than ten years old. Sweet fruit and extraordinary purity. A perfect bottle of this wine. 50, 5, 13, 18, 8 = 94

Dark ruby red. Super ripe cherries covered in chocolate and dipped in brandy, hints of truffle, slightly funky with barnyard on the nose. Viscous, luscious and velvety, packed with endless reserves of ripe fruit with just a fading reminder of silky tannin. This wine shall be sipped and swirled in small quantity slowly pealing away the many layers of flavor the palate has to offer, all that wrapped in a blanket of refreshing acidity that keeps you coming back for more. Truly spectacular. Drinking great now with mostly primary characteristics. Impressive length and balance.

Still very dark in the glass, the nose offers up cedar, loads of cassis fruit and black cherry, spice box, tobacco leaf, perfumed and elegant with high intensity.
Full bodied, tannic, tightly knit acidity, and lots of fruit. This wine has not hit its stride yet, I forecast maturity 2018-2020. This is a long distance runner, an amazing effort.
