My first time trying this wine. Disappointing. I knew it wasn’t going to be spectacular because it’s 2012 vintage. Difficult year. The wine is kind of harsh, dry and hard to drink. I don’t think it’s shut down or will be improving with more bottle age. This was the last year Jacques Lardiere made wine at the domaine. I’m not sure if he is retired or if he’s now working & consulting in Oregon. I opened my last bottle of Jadot 2014 CSJ about a month ago & that was very good. When it first shipped over it was very thin & simplistic but some of the dark/black fruit the CSJ cru is known for was starting to emerge from that bottle. — 10 months ago
I haven’t been drinking for about two years now because of some crazy inflammation and back pain. Happy to be back drinking wine with my new healthy diet. This was excellent. Clean and pretty complex for a 20 dollar bottle of wine. It really opened up after a couple hours I could have easily drank the entire bottle to my head. Not sure if 2020 was good year for Tuscany/Chianti but this was very good. I usually prefer my Chianti/Sangiovese a little bit riper but I don’t really have any complaints with this bottle. — a year ago
Drinking from a 1.5ml magnum sized bottle with ten years on it. Medicinal cherry fruit and a heavy amount of funky ass brettanomyces. The wine is so rich and layered. I can see how the bretty flavors could bother some people. Drinking with Popeyes sweet & spicy chicken wings. This wine reminds me of the incredibly rare 3 Fonteinen Sharbeekse cherry beer made with special cherries. The funky reductive & brett flavors mellowed as the wine opened up. — 5 months ago
I had a glass of this at Aldo Sohm Wine Bar a couple months ago. It tastes similar to the McKinley Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Burgundian in style, like a good Bourgogne rouge. Light, simple & easy drinking. Oregon has such great weather compared to Burgundy. Rarely a shitty vintage. I think the wines are better quality at this point. I know it sounds crazy & obviously a different style but I prefer Oregon Pinot Noirs. They’ve improved so much and they are great with many different types of food. Burgundy is always disappointing, often way too dry for me and too expensive unfortunately. And the Chardonnay they grow out in Oregon is awesome as well . I’m out of the burgundy game. Tough luck. — a year ago
Note
It’s possible this 2012 Jadot Clos Saint Jacques bottle was damaged from heat. — 10 months ago
My last bottle of the 15 vintage CDM rouge I had stored in my kitchen refrigerator. The strong reductive elements and aromas have pretty much blown off and this was showing very well. Smooth, silky with some medicinal cherry and forest floor/green moss. I think this is probably one of my favorite CDB rouge wines still to this day & I believe this year or last year was the 150th anniversary of the Mouches cru/vineyard. And a special congratulations to my friend Veronique who made this wine & just received the highest honor in France. Pretty cool! — a year ago
