Northern California is on fire, and I'm drinking this after a long day of chaos and a gratefully voluntary evacuation. I'm not picking up a big nose, though I did spend the morning in acrid smoke. This is a soothing, easy Cab with a sneak attack. A smooth beginning crescendos into bright cherry and black pepper. A full velvet body tapers quickly into a quiet finish. Apple and autumn leaves on the nose, with a soft open. Overall, this is well balanced and off dry, with notes of apricot, white tea, and lemon curd carrying through a medium body with a medium finish. Almost crisp and refreshing. Nothing I'd write home about, though an excellent value for a weeknight meal at home. We used it in - and paired it with - chicken and mushroom risotto made with pecorino cheese instead of parmesan (use what you have). A creamy, earthy risotto is a good balance for this bottle. — 8 years ago

Mild-mannered, approachable, with a hint of cleavage. Nothing notable on the nose, though perhaps I spent a little too long sulphuring barrels today. Vanilla, the slightest hint of mint, and muddled strawberries. The approach is smooth, picking up a robustness in the middle, then tapering out quickly to an easy finish. A 375 ml for $4.99 at Grocery Outlet is a steal of a weekday sipper. — 8 years ago

Lemon nose, soft open, medium to heavy body, with lemon lime and bosque pear. Dry, with a medium finish. We paired it with creamy mustard chicken thighs and roasted potatoes. Excellent value. For a relaxed date night in and a last minute dash to Fresh Thyme for mustard and wine, I give it a solid 8 + another .5 for the price point. — 8 years ago
