This is a very complex wine, with a lot going on. I guess that is to be expected from a 119 year old vineyard. Many consider 2006 to be THE year. I agree! First aromas are rich with spice, especially sage. As wine lingers in the glass, the aromas evolve into mellow, earthy fruits. This wine has a long intense finish. Early palate is citrus followed by clover and lingering tobacco. Later, the palate mellows to dark cherry, blackberry, and chocolate. An interesting surprise was the licorice aftertaste on the sides of the palate! The journey of this wine is truly prodigious and abundant! — 10 years ago
There is no reason for a $10 Bordeaux to be this good, but it is! Complex enough to be interesting with a nice finish. The 2nd glass will be a bit stronger. Enjoy! — 10 years ago
