Past it’s prime . Unfortunately all that is left are hints of “what was”. Mushrooms, earth and dark fruit welcome you . In the mouth tired fruit , shrill acidity and tannins . Sometime we keep them too long.

See previous Delectable note. Earthy plum and prune notes. Some mint, dried herbs, minerality and a touch of cow yard. 2 days later- very balanced with red and black fruits. Rich and mouthfilling - generous on the palate. A very good Yarra Valley Cabernet blend - the Yarra does terrific Cabernet and one of the leading districts for the varietal in Australia.

A classical Cabernet nose - mint, herbs and cassis. Everything in balance. Medium intensity. Great winemaking from the de Pury family who have been in the Yarra Valley since 1863 - showing typical French restraint with this Bordeaux blend. Excellent length for what is just a medium bodied Cabernet blend. This is the first of 4 bottles - many years ahead for the other 3.

Dark Crimson. A rich wine from a warm year. Cabernet dominent but a full Bordeaux blend. Aromas of Herbs mint and ripe plum. A full bodied palate finishing with M Tannins and good persistence. Made by the French de Pury family who established Yeringberg in 1863.

Not as herbal and leafy as a top notch Coonawarra or Margaret River Cabernet. A reflection of the warmer 2008 vintage in SE Australia? Nice cassis and olive notes but no more than medium bodied with less tannin structure than one would expect. An excellent Cabernet blend with medium term cellaring potential.

Just has it all covered, even so young: clarity of fruit front and centre, lovely oak in support, fresh, long, elegantly composed with generous flavour and such an easy way on the nose and through the palate.

Somewhat embarrassingly, doing 5:2 diet at the moment and blew quarter of daily calorie budget on a glass of this. Left me light-headed but with no regrets. It's superb. Notes of hay and tobacco on the nose which is brimming with red fruits - raspberry, redcurrant, with some plumminess and cassis just about lurking. All that fruit is there on the layered, mid-bodied palate, which has a gorgeous, enveloping softness to it. Not short on presence, the long tannins drag it evenly and lengthily across the palate. Worth every kilojoule and more.
