Most Grignolino's I've tasted have manifested as poorer varietals of the better Piedmont grapes (Nebbiolo) but this one exhibits all of the natural characteristics of the grape quite well--burning acidity and smooth tannins structure the notes of lemon and peppercorn. This wine, merely meant to serve as a placeholder while the better wines breathe, surprises as such, and serves its role well.

2013 Vintage - one of the few bottles that actually will allow you to taste the distinctive Grignolino flavors, and not a watered down Barbera.
