Vinchio-Vaglio Serra
Le Nocche Grignolino D'Asti
Most Grignolino's I've tasted have manifested as poorer varietals of the better Piedmont grapes (Nebbiolo) but this one exhibits all of the natural characteristics of the grape quite well--burning acidity and smooth tannins structure the notes of lemon and peppercorn. This wine, merely meant to serve as a placeholder while the better wines breathe, surprises as such, and serves its role well.
