Two Vintners
Stone Tree Vineyard Zinfandel
Tasting a more recent vintage, 460 cases produced, 16.7% alc/vol (seriously?!) So how does it compare with previous vintages? Purple red, highly extracted pigment. Wood in nose, wood, black cherry and black currant in mouth initially. Letting it breathe... Mint and blackberry flavors emerge after 30 minutes, and there’s got to be some RS in this. Well made, balanced, surprisingly not hot or alcoholic (which explains the sweet fruitiness), slightly syrupy in mouthfeel. A really nice wine. Reminds me why, growing up, Zin was always my favorite. Moderate chewy tannins emerge after 60 minutes, but acceptably so; they later dissipate. Fresh fig and tar emerge after that, greatness! Makes me wonder if, with global warming, the future of Zinfandel is here in the Pacific Northwest

Oct 25th, 2020530 cases produced, 16.9% alc. Deep inky purple. Butter, prune, raspberry, baked red fruit, wood, eucalyptus and cassis notes in nose. Needs time to open, at least two hours for tannins to develop. Cranberry and cherry flavor, lots of chewy mid weight skin tannins, with front of tongue astringency . Mint and cranberry aftertaste. Tasty, complex, true to variety, and surprisingly doesn't taste hot given alcohol level.

Mar 24th, 2018Damn, this 2014 vintage is now my favorite WA state Zin, period! Yes, it's hot (16.9%), but Zin is usually hot. This is packed with big, jammy black fruit that eases into sweet leather and peppery notes. This is freaking great!!

Dec 3rd, 2016Extremely well structured Zin. The oak doesn't interfere, the fruit is well poised to please the most blackberry and currant obsessed amongst us dark fruit craving oenifiles. :)
