2013 vintage. Opaque garnet, med+ bodied, silky mouthfeel. Stewed black cherry, plum, earth, tar, rose petal; like a Barolo but fruit forward. Balanced tannin, lingering finish.

Tofanelli is always one of my favorite vineyard designates in Turley's lineup and one of the best agers to boot. The family's own take is maybe a bit more rustic and structured, a great expression of the old vines.

One of those old wineries that tips just a little too much into the overy juice bomb arena. I would like more tannins, and the spice to be more in the forefront. But whatever! It's giant and fun to guzzle. Not as good as Ridge, Black Chicken, Porter Creek....
