Smoking Loon
The Original Old Vine California Zinfandel
Smokey nose, but doesn't smokey at all. Not harsh, but still clearly a Zinfandel. Difficult to identify a distinct flavor. Light oak flavoring.
Not great, but not bad. It's more than just cheeseburger wine.

I don't mean this to come across as snobbish but this Zin is pedestrian/mediocre at best. Lacking any real character. No fruit bomb here, no pepper, no spice. Hint of leather and licorice.

Jan 18th, 2016Nice value here for $13. Slightly confected but very plush. Blackberry and vanilla consume the palate. An easy-going entry to Zinfandel. On a side note, the new purple label is a lot easier on the eyes then the former ketchup and mustard looking label.
