Steve Shaw's much balleyhooed orange wine. It's a solid effort for the first commercially released FLX orange wine. It manages to avoid the most common pitfalls of the category: extreme harshness and over-funky oxidative off-notes. My one slight quibble here is its release date. Steve tends to age his wines a LONG time before release (sometimes, frankly, to the wine's detriment). But here's a wine that seems to demand a bit of time, yet it's on the tasting bar now. I appreciate the commercial realities here but do kind of wish for once that Steve had followed his normal protocol here.
