Wine is garnet colored with a strong American oak nose. Lots of cocoa and tobacco, hints of vanilla and a subdued fruitiness. Not very jammy. Taste is subtle fruit with some darker plum/date notes and loads of peppercorn and tobacco. Moderate body with a tannic finish. Very light on the sweetness and acidity. A fine wine that matched the food well.
