Has been a little over 2 years since consuming this wine. Rated at 96 last time, and I would say I would put it the same today. This is a knife and fork wine. Instantly, aromatics of roasted black, purple, blue fruits hit you right in the face upon cork pop. I think that this is probably the right time to drink this one, and did not really even decant. Entry is black tar, ripe blackberry pie, fig, baking spice. Middle gains a little bit of herb, leather. Starts to gain a peppery note. This wine finishes with immense depth and complexity. Goes on for a couple of minutes. Really firing on all cylinders and in its element today. The finish is starting to soften a bit. Toasted cedar tannin finish. Drink now or hold another 5-7 years. Has probably 15 years of life left.

I rated this a 95 a little under 2 years ago. This wine has done quite a bit of changing since then, definitely in a good way. It has become more structured and balanced. What a monster! Starts out with toasted oak, sweet bright and ripe blackberry, vanilla, cinnamon spice, black pepper, graphite all in the nose. The initial taste begged for a decant as this was primarily served pop and pour and the fruit was a little muted. Palate was dominated by blackberry fruit and seemed to develop a small amount of gravelly character in the middle. Finished with black pepper and black licorice notes. The bottle enjoyed 2 years ago seemed to be a little more forward and you can definitely tell this one pushed more to an even balance and longer finish. They hold these back just a tiny bit, and now I really understand why. Has another 15-20 years and I expect this to continue developing quite a bit.
