Red and Black fruits. Coffee grounds from the oak. Plummy aromas. Not as luscious as many previous Stonewells and 2008 was a ripe and pretty good vintage in the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Finishes with a little astringency. As HH said, a good but not great Stonewell.

See previous note from a year ago. More medium bodied than I recall from previous tastings. Plum flesh aromas and flavours together with dark chocolate. This wine is obviously old vine Barossa Shiraz and is Peter Lehmann’s flagship. Still plenty of power and energy which will see it through for several more years.

See 2 previous notes from 2019 and 2021. Dusty notes of plum and red and black berries. Can still taste remnants of the oak which had largely integrated. Coffee grounds. Rich and medium to full bodied on the palate. Notes of chocolate and blackberry. This wine screams old vine Barossa Shiraz which is what it is. I will try and leave the last one for a year or 2 or 3.

Concentrated Barossa Shiraz from a warm vintage. Ripe black fruits and dark chocolate on a full bodied palate. A little astringency from the tannins. Another rich Barossa Shiraz perfect for a cold winter. Second of 4 but I can’t see it changing much down the track.

A stunning example of old vine Barossa Shiraz from a good vintage. More refined and not as full bodied as a year ago. Has changed from its 17th to its 18th birthday. Still maintaining some structure but mainly resolved seductive tannins creating a seamless texture. Plum, chocolate, liquorice and a touch of mint. Not as pruney as before. At its peak and perfect with Roast Pork.

Still a dark Ruby almost opaque. Ripe dark plum notes verging on prune. Blackberry and Dark Chocolate. Touches of licorice and mint. Typical old vine Barossa - a lush texture from old vines and full bodied. Great length and resolved tannins. So delicious now I can’t see that further cellaring will change things markedly for the better.

Deep Ruby in colour - very dark for a 15 year old red with no bricking at this stage. Blackberry and chocolate with ripe black fruits on nose and palate - not as pruney as previous Stonewell notes. Lush and full bodied from selected old vine Shiraz vineyards in the Barossa - in the Greenock district amongst others. This is Barossa Shiraz at its best from a good vintage. Hard not to like - warm and comforting - perfect for a cooler night with pork chops.

Dense Ruby in colour. Even after 18 years the oak presence is like the aromas of newly sawn wood. Ripe plums with a pruney note. On the palate rich and full bodied with fluid smooth tannins finishing dry. Obviously the product of very old Shiraz vines in the Barossa sourced from growers who the original Peter Lehmann had a marvellous bond with for decades. This is Peter Lehmann’s flagship red from the cool 2002 vintage resulting in a long hang time and great flavours. A Barossa Icon.

An old fave of ours, and our only bottle - sniff... impressive as it appears to have stood still in the bottle.
Absolutely zero detectable signs of aging on the eye, nose or palate. While their are some tertiary herbal/tobacco notes in the background, the fruits are center-stage. Strawberry jam combines with pomegranate and bright acidity, to create a vigorous experience. The Barossa soil is also on display throughout. A stunning example. If stored correctly, there is no rush to consume this.

At the Peter Lehmann dinner at the Downs Club. Thanks to Clintyn Barnes for bringing this 1993 from his own cellar. Quite savoury and mellow- just medium weight with fully resolved Tannins. Clintyn agreed that 1993 was not a particularly good vintage in the Barossa so this was a welcome surprise. More like the nose of an old Burgundy with forest floor sous bois characters.
