Perata Vineyards
Yountville Cabernet Sauvignon
My first taste of the new 2008 vintage. Nose of cassis, wet stones, oak, eucalyptus, extremely variable nose that evolves with time. Where the alcohol level in the 2007 is out of control, the alcohol in this vintage is much more restrained. Unfortunately, the nose overpromises what the wine delivers. The fruit is beautiful, but a touch too thin in the mid-palate. Aside from this one minor complaint, this is a beautiful wine.

This bright purple wine has a nose that continues to evolve with time. It starts with black cherry and earthy aromas of tobacco and leather and raspberry tea leaves. Then a mint and herbaceous character comes through on top of vanillins. All this, and much more on the palate finishing with a slight element of sweet tart candy. This is not a bad thing: one of the best wines I've tasted the last 12 months.
