Initially couldn't believe how youthful this felt for a 12 year old cabernet. It was showing a lot of primary fruit, blackcurrants, blackberries, raspberries and black cherry with subtle dusty oak tones along with blueberry and licorice. Two hours later in the decant it's showing a real savouryness and herbaceous tones. The trademark Coonawarra menthol is starting to show among with some eucalypt and twiggy notes. The palate is a hell of a lot less weighty than anticipated and there is a slight sourness to the acid. The flavour intensity of fruit is right up there but a little hard get past the acid, it lingers well after the fruit.
