Light ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

On the nose, blueberries, red currants, plums, vegetables, wood, earth, wet leaves, alcohol, coffee, licorice, barnyard, spices and peppercorn.

Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, chocolates, oak, light vanilla, red candy, green vegetables, herbs, earth, dark roasted coffee, leather, graphite and peppercorn.

Medium finish with very soft tannins and tart raspberries.

This is a nice Ripasso with nice complexity, but it’s not balanced any longer. I think I missed it by a year or so. However, it is still enjoyable with hard cheeses.

Soft mouth feel and spicy with a kick at the ending.

Needs 30 minutes to open up.

Aged for 8 months in Oak barrels.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

Another Trader Joe's wine. A little darker fruit than I prefer, but a nice wine and a decent Valpolicella Ripasso. Win.

Trader Joe's, $9

Right in the middle on sweetness/dryness/acidity which makes it very easy to drink, but the nose is sharp and sour and I'd prefer it a bit smoother. Lots of red fruit with a smokey after taste. Less jammy than the appassimentos I've had but still very fruit forward.
