Old haunts, new vintage, 45/18/17/17/3 blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault and Viognier. Blackberry nose, flavor, solid tannin finish. Fruit aromas pour out of the bottle on opening. Pairing this one with lamb hot pot; the table runneth over with work, food and a wee bit of local red wine. More as the bottle opens up. Decant at least three hours, the style is ageworthy, rounded mouthfeel but some won’t get past the tannins present, not that they are all that assertive, nor are they negligible in quantity. In proportion, absolutely. Decent acid, generous alcohol without being hot, nice mouthfeel, almost rounded, plus flavors with length, more cherry, cola and plum emerging over time. A lot to like here

Only one bottle of the new vintage- assessing now... Dense purple red, highly extracted pigment. Blackberry with an undercurrent of strawberry jam. Tangerine peel, cherry jam and black pepper flavor, smooth mouthfeel, decent acidity, balanced. Moderate skin astringency in aftertaste. Bold, well made but a tad tannic

Last bottle, aged it an additional year - how does it taste? Ruby red with a tinge of purple, very good clarity, highly extracted pigment. Funky, blackberry, mint and graphite notes in nose. Needs time to open; lots of fine grained tannins that need to aerate. Strawberry and blackberry flavors emerge. Citric finish with barrel smoke, phenol and blackberry flavor with length.

67% Grenache 10% Syrah 10% Mourvèdre 9% Cinsault, 4% Viognier. New winery, first release, only four barrels produced. Purple red, deep extract, very good clarity. Strawberry, floral and slight barrel smoke notes in nose. Cherry, blackberry and floral flavors with some honey, spearmint, graphite; good acidity, slightly citric, bitter and saline finish. Cherry stone and slight honey, spearmint and licorice aftertaste. Moderate skin astringency on front of tongue and top of palate. Balanced flavor profile, though the floral Viognier comes through the more robust red varietal flavors. Worth aging this one.
