Stellenbosch Pinotage

Holy smokes. Smelled a bit barnyard but didn't taste any of that. Suuuper smokey, tobacco, and leather.

Really great Pinotage that Liz loves!

Good intro to Pinotage. A bit harsh when first opened but improves after some contact with oxygen. More on the fruity side of the Pinotage spectrum.

A healthy amount of fruit, cherry mainly, very smooth on the palate. With a variety of moderate strength cheeses, an excellent accompaniment.

Very drinkable on its own. Mid high acidity. Smoky. Nice finish

Incredibly smoky to start but, as it breathed, more cherry flavor emerged. Bit of a hot finish but overall very drinkable pinotage. Would buy again and decant before drinking.

After letting this open up a bit in glass, synthetic cherries are prevalent on the nose, as is leather. On the palate, copious leather and subtle spices. Velvety tannins that linger in the right ways. Would probably let age for a time so it can open up.

Definitely some earthly savory tones here. Smooth well balanced!

Well balanced, aromatic, easy drinking pinotage. A deep inky purple color. Wonderful nose with the initial pour... cured meats, bready yeast, and dark berries. I've seen many others noting banana and cinnamon scents with this wine, but I didn't pick up any of that. Maybe vintage variation? Tannins and acidity were present, but not strong. Med-Full body. All-in-all, a very good pinotage worth trying.
