Dense purple red, good clarity for a red. Blackberry, strawberry and cherry flavors. Soft, almost rounded mouthfeel. Light bodied, good acid and balance. Winery says this is an 80/20 blend of Syrah and Grenache. Smoke and forest fires mean there will not be a 2020 vintage. A shame. Drinks well; give it an hour to resolve. 185 cases made

Nov 5th, 2022Medium extracted purple red in color, excellent clarity. Blackberry, red currant and anise flavors, later spice and cola emerge. Chewy medium skin and seed tannins in finish, maybe some black pepper as well. Well balanced, fruit forward. 24 hours later, flavors solidify into blackberry, spearmint, anise with cough syrup and black pepper in finish. Tasty enough but not sure what flavor profile to expect from North Coast Syrah since I’ve tasted so few of them, let alone Mendocino Syrahs

Impressive wine....I really love this winery. I've drank many bottles this past year from this vineyard. They know what they are doing.

Nov 20th, 2017This is the Navarro Vineyards 2011 Mendocino Syrah. Apparently I like this wine better than Wine Spectator did! Candied red fruit and savory notes stand out on this nicely balanced wine. It's clearly a cool climate Syrah, but done in a way to bring out an edgy fruit aspect. Works well with a chicken, seafood, and light tomato stew. Don't expect the typical Cali Syrah!
