Starting to show some secondary notes of olives, pencil shavings and roasted meat. Very pretty wine

Tasting at the breathtaking Mayacamas Vineyard. Beautiful tertiary nose, bacon, fine leather, game, truffle as well as some fading red fruit component. Well resolved tannins, still young, very dry finish. Just gorgeous. My girlfriend's favorite😳 13.25% alc. 2003 vintage

I would never guess this wine had as much age as it did. Drinking so fresh and bright right now. The nose is super pungent and lifted and the palate is a contrast of dusty earth and crunchy red fruits. Spices florals, mint, damp earth, crushed rocks, red currant and plum. Structurally the tannins are fine yet you can sense their power on the palate still. You can taste the hard work it takes to make this wine

My first Mayacamas. I see what is meant by “old school”. Nose is a subdued, masculine leather, tobacco, spice, and earth. Clean acid frames a very secondary/tertiary palette with finely silky tannins. Nice linger in the finish.

A surprisingly beautiful 2003, showing restraint and balance.
