2012 Matthias Dostert Rosay (Roter Elbling Rosé) from the Mosel 10.5% alc. Unique, interesting, better than the lion's share of rosé on the market -not my favorite of all but I could crush a bottle or three on a hot sunny day. Better on the first day with a touch of effervescent co2, second day open - good and enjoyable but pervaded by a yeastiness that isn't evident upon opening. I don't consider this an aging Rosay - drink upon release. "This wine is made from the roter elbling grape, a forgotten variety that resembles Poulsard in that it is a red grape that is vinified as a red wine, but can make only a pale rosé colored wine. - this is a special and unique wine - a lovely nose of sweet fruit (think kumquats), pine trees, spices, and flowers. It is well balanced and very refreshing. It comes from 30 year old vines on deep limestone soils." 300 cases (40 for Cali)
