Matthews Cellars
Reserve Columbia Valley Red Blend

Developing well. Black currants, dried violets and backing spices. Light in its feet from the cooler vintage with great nuance and incredible texture.

Gorgeous ruby color, hinting at the notes of strawberry and currant. Leather, spice and muddled fruit. A sleek wine with some edge in the tannins. Lovely finish. Give it time to breath before enjoying.

Every time I taste this wine, I am impressed. Predominantly cherry overtones, it is simply a wine to be cherished and is aging quite nicely.

Similar profile to the 2014 and 2015, which would be expected from winemaker Aryn’s consistency in delivering on this flagship wine. Nose seems more pronounced than the 2014 or 2015 and it is more berry-filled as well. Impressed with this wine now; only expect it to perfectly develop.

Subtler smell, younger on the palette than the 2014. Developing nicely.

The 2014 Reserve Claret was my favorite in a recent vertical tasting. No surprise as it has had the most time to bring out the aroma and flavors that this varietal from Matthews is known for. Rich nose, grassy, smooth on the palette
