Friday morning 8/28/15 - Beds 42/43. Dr. Aggarwal then Dr. Platt. Last night's shift began with a rib fractured milk and molasses enema and concluded with surprising a sweet 26-year-old with the news that she was pregnant for the first time. Throughout the night, I had all of the sweetest patients in the world, including the most amazing woman who had just gotten steroid shots in both knees, which was exacerbating her diabetes and raising her blood sugar. She told of her three children that were deceased, the youngest with asthma that died at age 14 of a heart attack in the 1980's, the daughter who was shot in the head four times execution style and thrown into a field in 2009, and a son who was mugged after getting off work and suffered a brain bleed in 2011. Her daughter's killer is still unknown, but the four men who killed her son are in prison in Chicago, still awaiting trial. She has her 18-year-old mentally challenged granddaughter, and is more proud of her than you can imagine. She had the best attitude of anyone that I have ever met, regardless of her situation, and I couldn't be more grateful to have met her. She was the perspective refresh that I have been needing for so long. She also had zero wrinkles for 60-something and I have no idea how, and Cole told her she looked 35 ;). We hugged when she was discharged. We were slow for a good part of the night, when I was summoned to D-pod by Lauren Sharif, who I videoed teaching about chest tubes in 45. Yesterday was also Granny Peg's birthday.
