A marvelous '98 Coonawarra at 17 years on and redolent of cedar and dill à la Rioja and bursting blackberries to balance out all this spice.

The 1998 is from a great vintage. An iconic Cabernet Shiraz done so well in Australia. This shows minty Cab nuances from Coonawarra plus a choc/leafy nose with nice sweet Shiraz (McLaren Vale?) to round it out. A perfect match with Cape Grim rump. 18.5.

Quite possibly the oldest cab/ Shiraz blend from Australia- I have ever drank. Still after 21 years have to say tannins and fruits still doing their job. Needed a little aeration but the bottle was emptied.

Jul 16th, 2018I remembered this to be a lot more Cabernet influenced and apparent. Other than its instant smack of Blackcurrant I'm not getting any of the classic eucalypt or menthol aromas that I remembered. In saying that, the fruitful and primary bouquet is still so luscious showing ripe plum, fresh blackberry and vanilla tobacco aromas. The palate is almost syrup-like and shows ripe plum character and some savoury plum too. The finish is long as hell on this, really loving it
