Maison Nicolas Perrin
Saint-Joseph Syrah
Got into a northern Rhone last night. Dark purple. Youthful. Decanted for 2 hours to dissipate some of the heat from the alcohol. It opened up much better than the last bottle. It has a nice balance of peppery spice and blueberry/bramble. It also had some mint and a savoury hoisin side to it, although it notably lacked any hint of liquorice. I’m okay with that as that really isn’t my draw. It has a very well defined structure but tannins are not grippy; just pleasantly present. Medium plus acidity, medium alcohol, medium tannin. A perfect accompaniment to our night by the fire. Could easily last and suggest to most palates that they wait another 5-10+. Probably best with food.
