This is actually the 12 year old Macallan which is aged in Sherry seasoned oak casks from Jerez. Rich woody spice notes on the nose with a touch of orange peel. A lovely mellow palate with dried fruit nuances. Interestingly the Macallan is often the Single Malt which brings sky high sums of money at auction for their 50 year old and older bottles. My first taste of the 12 year old or any Macallan for that matter.

Really nice bottle that I find to be a bit more tame and integrated when compared to The Dalmore 12, which is also aged in Oloroso casks (both American and European oak). This selection has sweet caramel & fig, winter spices, toffee, and some nuanced citrus and fresh wood.
