Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon
Le Monsard Mâcon-Bussières Chardonnay
Our first and go to French chardonnay. Different enough from California, but not spare as they can be.

Jan 19th, 2021Very smokey nose with some stones and white fruit. Palate is similar with too much of that smokey side for my taste, despite decent acidity and nice iodine and saline notes. Ok, but usually much better in other vintages. Too hot maybe in 2015?
Nez fumé et avec un côté pierreux et de fruits blancs. La bouche est sur le même registre, fumée un peu trop à mon gout mais agec une belle salinité, un peu iodée et une bonne acidité. Bon mais moins que sur d’autres millésimes.

Still high from @Jim Wagonfeld 's Northern Rhône / Sauternes Thanksgiving lovefest and not quite ready to go back to our workaday plonk, we dug into the cellar and opened this Lafon Mâcon-Bussières. It is a thing of beauty. Not especially complex, but buzzing with intelligence and acid. Nose is creamy Chardonnay, but subdued. Palate is lush, with an acidic finish that seemingly goes on forever. One imagines this as the "chardonnay" Hillary Clinton consoled herself with. Cold comfort, but it's the small things...
