Guarnaccia

One of the three Guarnaccia Bianca produced on his onw in Calabria.
x This label is not the Giramondo, but it is called just "G" which stands for Guarnaccia
It aged 12 months in mulberry.
6 years of bottle age
It is a very unique wine with a change in the glass every 5 minutes. No rush in tasting this, please.
It has more of a Jura style than anything else.
Almondy, tobacco, spices, the fruits are complex, not just fresh or jammy. They feel mixed with the spices nearly like having a chai on the fruit.
Perhaps 500 bottles were produced, i was donated by Dino, the producer, 3 of the last 12 for the Masterclass at the Pollino Wine Fest.
I thought honestly this was a hard wine to connect with for everyone, but the ceowd got blown away.

Very interesting variety with a controversial origin
The name reminds of the Spanish Garnacha or the French Grenache Blanc, but appare tly it is not related to either. Some other people said it is linked to the the Sardinian Vernaccia, but again no proofs whatsoever.
Most likely it is an indigenous grapes from Sicily where it does not exist anymore and it is now endemic to Calabria.
It is used in the blend of the rare Moscato di Saracena and very few times vinified on its own.

The wine we have here is already 6yo and the result is quite attractive.
Very floral and spiced.
As we said very few bottles around.
This wine has minimal intervention and it is long and delicious.

I guess i can assume it is a Southern Italian grenache blanc🤷‍♂️
